Isobel Campbell

On Saturday Pamela and I went to the newest concert venue in Glasgow, the old ABC cinema, to see ex Belle & Sebastian singer\songwriter Isobel Campbell. She was joined on stage for most of the songs by ex Vaselines frontman Eugene Kelly. The first couple of songs were spoiled slightly by the most incompetant sound engineer the entertainment world has ever (brieflty) tolerated. He\she should have been paid twice for two nights work - their first night (presumably) and also last. After the vibrating noises and extremely loud backing track had been sorted, the concert itself was great. The ABC was an ideal venue thanks to it's easy access to the bar, comfy padded benches, and tables to rest your drink on. It was just like watching a gig in your local pub - except the sound engineer in your local pub is probably better! Isobel seems very shy and I wonder whether that's why she has chosen to go on stage and record her latest album with someone else rather than alone. She is very softly spoken and never really looked at the audience. But she can sing.

Arctic Monkeys...

You know how sometimes everyone goes crazy for a band and even though you think they are pretty good the inner snob in you demands that you rise above it and you then commit yourself to rubbishing them to anyone who is willing to listen? I did it with Oasis (although in fairness they are rubbish now). Maybe you do it with The Beatles or Led Zeppelin? Anyway - I give you The Arctic Monkeys. Society as a whole seems to be lauding them like they were the second coming of Christ, and you know what.....damn right! They are that good. Every time I listen to this CD it gets better and better. Every fibre of my being wants to dismiss this record\band as hysteria and to brand their fans as sycophantic, moronic, watchers of CD:UK. But I can't. The Arctic Monkeys are great and I make no appologies. Buy their CD. Do it quickly. Claim that you "were always into them even before they were famous" if you must but BUY THIS CD.

Budapest Stag Weekend

I have been put under a pressure by Derek to publish something up to date. Seemingly that's the point in having a blog!
Well the last thing of any importance was my trip to Budapest last weekend. The occasion was Sturt's stag do. Stuart get's married on the 7th April. Remember to check back here for pictures of the wedding reception!
I would love to tell you all about Budapest but regretably there are two rules about Budapest.
  1. The first rule of Budapest is "Do not talk about Budapest".
  2. The second rule of Budapest is "DO NOT talk about Budapest".
So here are some of the photos. Here we were in one of Europe's great cities (possibly for the only time ever) and all I have pictures of are the inside of "pubs"! Might as well have been on Sauchiehall Street. The rest of the photos are here.

Halloween 2005

This is my last post today. As I am just starting out with this blogging malarky, I am going to post a few photos of cool things that I have been up to semi-recently. I will begin with Halloween 2005. Pamela and I decided that we needed to have a Halloween party. Personally I hadn't been to a Halloween party since Primary school so I was really looking forward to it. Friends were invited and friends came. We had myself and Pamela, Colin, Kenny, Thomas, Hannah, Alex, Fiona, JP, and Lisa. It was excellent. Everyone made a real effort with their costumes and everyone participated with the games. There was dooking for apples, Win Lose or Draw, and some drinking game that died a slow death becasue no one had the foggiest clue what was going on. Anyway, here are a few choice photos. The rest can be seen here.

Funniest Wisdom Ever...

Now that I am a small piece of the Internet, I want to take the opportunity to impart possibly the most hilarious truth that I have ever had the good fortune to hear spake. A wise man once said, and I quote...

"If Buzz Lightyear doesn't know he's a toy, why doesn't he speak when humans are around?"

I almost cried laughing the first time that I heard that. Never has "it's funny because it's true" been more appropriate.
